Coastal Survivors

Students explore our coastal environment and gain wilderness knowledge through educational hikes around the Palos Verdes Peninsula. We have become accustomed to and dependent on technology and we have forgotten the skills necessary to survive without it. This course allows students to immerse themselves with nature and learn the skills and techniques necessary to live off our coastal environment while also learning about the geography of the California coastline, the indigenous peoples who once lived here, and the organisms that inhabit our local waters. Survivor skills such as plant foraging, shelter building, ocean harvesting, orienteering, etc. will be taught. Class curriculum varies depending upon the season, weather, and tides.
