Our classes utilize US Sailing’s REACH curriculum along with our locally developed lessons to teach a dockside STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) session before students sail in our local ocean waters and learn in nature's classroom. The physics of sailing is taught along with navigation, tides, currents, nautical knots and marine science. Classes utilize a group learning environment to encourage teamwork and collaboration.

Topics covered include the following:
Measuring wind/points of sail (hurricanes included), wave physics, sail area and perimeter, mechanical advantage, meteorology, marine debris,  all about advanced knots, shark facts, marine mammals and the food web, racing/keel physics, plankton biology, coastal biology.

This year we are partnering with the King Harbor Yacht Club and the King Harbor Youth Foundation to bring a hands-on, personalized approach to sailing. Experienced sailors and educators will guide each student as they learn how to handle a sailboat out in the harbor and in open waters. We are offering TWO separate STEM sailing classes this year, to accommodate different age levels and different experience levels. Youth STEM Sailing is designed for our younger sailors in elementary school, and Intermediate STEM Sailing is designed for our older sailors in middle school. Come learn how to sail the seas as we delve into physics, nautical science, marine biology, maritime history, and so much more!
